Cancer Pain Control Program

Fear of incurable pain and infirmity out concerns the patients with cancer than the assumed eventualities resulting from cancer. It is this justify able apprehension that complicates the problem and if left unattended leads to heightening of the experience of pain and ensuing depression… Indeed with advanced cancer detection and treatments not all cancers lead to sudden eventuality and loss of life nor suffering from pain should be needlessly tolerated as there are sophisticated and cutting edge techniques for control of cancer pain. Cancer pain control is an integral part of cancer treatment and management. Every patient with cancer has a right to pain relief.

Cancer pain could be due to cancer itself and it could be due to the treatments of the cancer or complications of both cancer and cancer therapy. No matter what the causes majority of pain related to cancer could be alleviated by medicinal, non medicinal and neuro-cognitive (mind-body) procedures and techniques. Patients with cancer pain will neither get high from cancer pain medications nor do they develop addiction to prescription medications. When used appropriately, these medications indeed improve the quality of life of the patients with cancer pain. It is combined and integrated treatment of cancer pain and its emotional and psychological complication that can bring about satisfactory and favorable results.

The Program

The integrated Cancer Pain Control Program at Okaloosa Neuro Psychiatric Center is developed to meet the needs of patients with cancer to a pain free life with intent to restore the patient to self sufficiency and self reliance so long possible and adjustment to transition of life.

The Cancer Pain Evaluation and Control team at Okaloosa Neuropsychiatric Center consists of physicians and other professionals, including nurse, occupational therapist, pharmacist, health Psychologist, and relaxation therapist. Mobility engineer and other professionals.

The evaluation of cancer pain begins with a consultation with the pain specialist, that includes communication with the patient’s cancer specialist, the oncologist, review of records, an extensive history and interview with the patient and care givers and an examination. Based on this evaluation a treatment program is drawn that will included the services of other professionals on the Cancer Evaluation and Control Team according to the special needs of the patient.

The treatment is then followed at the clinic or at home in coordination with home health services. This may include house call as requested.

How to Request Services

Referral by physicians and other professional are quite welcome. The patients however can request for services independently. Submission of medical records relating to underlying cancer and cancer therapy as well as viewing of current medications of the patient is extremely helpful to expedite the consultation.

Cost of Services

The cost of services at Okaloosa Mental Health And NeuroPsychiatric Center is based on a fee schedule for each service. We accept Medicare and Medicaid, most insurance plans by pre-authorization and after co-payment and deductibles are met. We also accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.
