Occupational
Mental Health and Psychiatry concerns the effect of the mental health
of the worker on the work, as well as the effect of work and the
work organization on the mental health of the worker. The Occupational
Mental Health Service at Okaloosa Mental Health And Psychiatric
Center is designed and developed to meet the need of the workplace.
All work organizations are affected by human factors.
The mental health and well being of the worker and the organization
and the stability of the work place affects productivity and performance,
and for that matter, success or failure of the business.
Conventionally, most businesses or industries
wait until the need for mental health assistance arises in the workplace.
There is, however, a preferred way to address the unfavorable effects
of a mentally stressed worker through preventive measures. These
measures can be implemented by services or programs at the work
place. This may include in-house or out-post employee assistance
programs, stress management trainings, work and worker assessment,
and referral for specialized mental health and psychiatric services.
Our Occupational Mental Health Service begins with
a work system consultation and assessment of needs by a psychiatrist
and other mental health professionals. Depending on the size of
the business, this assessment may take from a few hours to a few
days to complete. Based on this consultation and assessment, recommendations
are made to management for improvement of the system to facilitate
productivity, performance, and peace at work.
