| Relational and Domestic
Disorders
Many
people have been affected by a disruptive relationship with another
person at some time in their lives. Problems can arise in relationships
between children, parents, partners or siblings. Left unchecked,
unhealthy domestic relationships can and frequently do escalate
to serious mental abuse or physical violence.
At times, the hidden cause of relational and domestic
disorders is substance abuse and alcohol dependence. Negative habits,
distorted viewpoints, and/or a lack of good communication skills
are present in most dysfunctional relationships. Troubled relationships
often negatively affect not only the individuals involved, but surrounding
family members, including the children involved.
Okaloosa Mental Health And NeuroPsychiatric Center
provides clinical services to assist people struggling with relationship
problems, as well as premarital and divorce counseling. The process
of evaluation and treatment for relational disorders begins with
a consultation with a psychiatrist at O.M.H. & P. C. Based on
this consultation, a treatment plan will be arranged which may include
clinical and psychological testing, individual, family, or group
therapy, and educational courses such as anger management and communication
skills.
